You are right, I didn’t mean to be so bitchy about it. I changed my labeling for now, and I’ll think some more about it. To be clear, I’m not angry or annoyed, and thankful for the feedback. I just had the feeling this discussion was going to go on, and it would lose its usefulness. I’m not against discussion, and I think it is useful, just not in this topic. If people feel like discussing it some more, they are free to open a new topic. I was trying to take some responsibility over the topic’s content, and unintentionally I was being a dick at the same time. I’m sorry.
Going on topic again:
I’m thinking about changing the labeling to Master/Minion, an suggestion I found on the internet. I think this sounds badass and I think this is much better.
I would still like some other suggestions about the design.
Thank you
This forum is pretty lax when it comes to going off topic. If you feel that your original topic is being ignored, simply state your wish to continue the off-topic conversation in another thread. If you feel for some reason you cannot keep the thread on topic, you can feel free to message us so we can intercede on your behalf.
You did ask for feedback. The terminology used falls under this purview, even if that may not have been your intended scope of feedback. We appreciate your response to this, lets remain civil.
Not a mistake as such, just my opinion, but personally, I find that pseudo-PCB font completely unreadable and like most designs of that type, it gives me the impression that the person who designed it has never seen a real PCB in their whole life (regardless of whether that is true or not). /rant
I agree on the difficult to read feedback. @ThijssjihT, if it’s just for you, none of this feedback is really relevant however. If its just for you, just make it however you like.
Same, at first, but I also don’t think it matters: the functionality is clear in any case. You could replace it with Sanskrit and I’d still understand equally well how to use it. Keep it or not, it’s a matter of taste.
One thing I don’t get is what “CT” and “FT” stand for.
It is text, but it is intended to be part of the art. All comments on this made me rethink my choice, but I think I’ll keep it. (Not sure about that though. I like it, that is most important, but if the consensus is it is worse with this text maybe I’ll change it.)
Because this.
I agree it doesn’t look like a real PCB, but I think almost everyone will recognize it as resembling a PCB. Just like an animated bear in a kids show doesn’t look like a real bear.
So, if you like what the font adds to the design or don’t like it, please tell me your opinion. I like it, but I don’t want a module everyone thinks is ugly. A module that some like and some not, I have no troubles with.
Something I did think of myself: It is not at all clear what waveform belongs to what output terminal.
The style I designed is with large radius golden arcs connecting stuff that belongs together. I did this with my first design, and a little with this design.
I now made the waveforms symbols in silkscreen white, and I drew golden arcs from the waveforms to the corresponding output terminals.
I wonder what a panel design would look like with a Gallifreyan typeface. From what I gather this is a phonetic encoding system based on intersecting circles and arcs. It can be quite pretty. For those who don’t recognise the name, it’s supposed to be a written form of the native language of Doctor Who.
Wooft! Ok. I held off chipping in here for a while.
Someone makes something (always a win) and says what do you think? (Always a mixed bag)
I love the design, colour, graphics and font. Some useful input has been offered; control grouping etc. It’s your synth, your design, you are the final word. You could always develop the design as you build this synth or (much more likely) develop the design as you build many, many, many more synths.
Bravo!
I call for JFDI accreditation, who will second?
I will JFDI, no seconds needed.
I got some very useful feedback, so no regrets. If I didn’t I would have an almost useless synth in a few weeks of hard work. I didn’t do a complete revision for nothing.
But your feedback is also very useful. I am one to keep on thinking instead of doing, and sometimes something is just finished and should be made to see if it is good and what can be done better.
I’m not finished laying out the circuit board though, so I don’t know where the screw holes will come, so still some time for more feedback if something is necessarily adjusted.
If no revisions are necessary, I’ll post a photo or video of the finished module here when it’s done (hopefully within a month shipping time included).
