Dream Clonezzzz (which classic synth would you like to see cloned?)

The Dave Smith Tetra is a nice alternative, I picked one up for $400. It took the place of my Sequential Circuit 6 Trak. Smaller pack and load footprint for touring. I think the Tetra is a steal, it has Mopho, Prophet, and 6 Trak sounds in it.

I’ve often seen it described as an expander for the Mopho x4, but I think it came out first, didn’t it? I’ve considered grabbing one. I do love the x4 though. It’s the perfect size, sound and knob distribution for my way of playing (which is to say, alone and only ever in my office.)

Its not very tactile on the surface and requires some hard menu diving, which sucks. The computer editor for it is hard for me to navigate, pretty boring. Its a plug in and go box for me, find some cools waves and blast on the filter.

Well, here’s another one:

Ah-I wondered when they were going to drop that thing they teased during SB20. Is this it? Also, Dedicated ADSR? That’s probably going to put it above the PolyD price point. I gave up on waiting for the UB-XA.

LOL I did end up picking one up. Apparently the price has gone up since you got yours so hopefully it will only appreciate in value (but also hopefully I’ll never sell it.)

I must admit I’ve been perusing TBC’s website more and more. $3.5k would be the costliest piece in my rack (should I bite that bullet) but it really would be a jewel in the crown. It got me thinking, though-do you ever think that, given there isn’t the same level of hostility leveled at The Black Corporation, some of the hate leveled at Uli is cost-snobbery? In other words, if they were to pump up the cost of the Poly-D to 5x its current MSRP, would they get more of a pass from purists?

For sure there’s cost snobbery involved, but they would have a hard time changing their pricing strategy now and I’m certain they make it up in volume.

Not analogue, but I’d love a hardware clone of Roland’s JP8000 synth.

The originals are still easy enough to come by and in general the asking cost is less than any of the Behringers with keyboards-out of curiosity what would make a clone appealing to you? I hope I don’t sound critical by asking, the curiosity is genuine.

Welp more B clones. What a time to be alive.

I want to criticize them for not finishing a project before running off to start the next one, but there was that whole pot/kettle issue.

Great freebie. My first instinct was to ask why I would want to blur my compositions like that, but then I realized I haven’t actually composed any music, and besides a chorus sound is part of many of my favourite compositions, of many genres ancient and modern.

Ive been comparing this with the TAL clone of the juno chorus. Very comparable, both free. Arturia has a function that lets you customize a bit more, but the TAL version i have grown to like out of the box.
