100k - 100r are they the same

Can l use a 100k resistor in stead of a 100r resistor? I hope this is not a to stupid question, many thanks.

No. “100r” is something people type because the symbol for ohms, Ω, is too inconvenient; it means 100 Ω. “100k” means 100 kΩ or 100,000 Ω. 100k would be 1000 times too large.

Also, you may see E used instead or R. They are the same.

Thanks Riggidyboo, l have a lot to learn, l have made a parts list for Rapid.

I wrote up a glossary detail entry for resistors.

Thanks Analogoutput for the glossary, l have taken several screen shots that l can printout and keep on my worktop. At the moment l am building 5 Kosmo modules and l don’t want to deviate from the BOM.

Is there any print or capture to PDF function for threads in discourse?

Thanks @analogoutput for filling out the wiki, and thanks @Stanfree for asking a question to prompt things that should be covered.

You can use your browsers print function, it will ask the website for a print friendly version of the website.
Also current Windows versions include a “printer” called “Save to PDF”.
Choose that one, “print”, and save the resulting PDF file where you want

1K5 = 1.5 Kilo Ohms
15K = 15 Kilo Ohms
1M5 = 1.5 Mega Ohms
15M = 15 Mega Ohms

100R = 100 Ohms
100K = 100 Kilo Ohms
