A solid fuel model rocket engine would be easier, though getting one to ignite on the beat is iffy at best. And you can only ignite it once.

It reminds me of when i was a student aircraft technician. The senior studens built a pulse jet engine as a project, which would produce the some of the loudest, deepest bass notes i ever heard when starting up. You could still hear it when actual airliners were starting up.
We were of course right next to the airport, and the dutch royal marechaussee (i’m guessing military police/gendarmerie?) would show up every time.
They were not happy but also it wasn’t technically illegal.
Back then i wasn’t that much into electronic music yet, but now i regret not recording any samples
