Super Simple Oscillator - Pot range

Hi friends!

I’ve just built my first two SSO’s with the SS9018 transistor (powered by a 9V battery) and so far so good - I’ve got sound out of both.

I do however have some range issues. Both SSO’s only start to oscillate at about 90% of the rotation of the pot. So they’re quite limited in their range. I’ve used two different caps - one low freq and one high freq but both have the pot issue.

Has anyone else experienced this or have an idea of what might be wrong?

Thanks so much!

May I suggest you start here Super Simple Oscillator: Simple except when it isn’t – Analog Output

Maybe test some other pot value ?

Thanks so much, that was both reassuring and not but not to worry! After reading I tried with a 12V power supply and it seems like that works a lot better. Thanks a lot!

I’ll give this a go too! Switching it up to a 12V power supply def helped a bit though.

Thanks so much!

hi i built 5 of these using 2N3904 transistors and needed 18 volts for full range work fine
