Yeah, I just take a photograph of the front, taking care to capture the full arc of each patch cable and the exact position of all knobs and switches. It’s semi-digital, I suppose.

I’m also reminded of my idea for a fractal control surface design. Of course it could only work in software, and there is a lot of complex thought behind it, but the goal is a simple, intuitive user interface. I need to work harder on a use case to see if it would have any utility. It’s easy to fall in love with elegant mathematics and forget that the interface is just a bridge between the musician and the music.

That’s one of those ideas that make me wonder why I bother carrying this big bowl of warm porridge around at the top of my vertebral column. I guess it comes in useful as a counter-balance occasionally, but obviously some of you get much more use out of your porridge.
