Eurorack Synth Noodle Toaster v2

Was playing around with my Triple SSO + LPF breadboard earlier, decided to put the output back into the Noodle Toaster, as I hadn’t actually tested that the output jack worked. The jack socket was fine, so I started fiddling with the settings, and put the Audio In setting onto Note, then this happened:

Easily sorted by cycling the power, but there’s obviously something amiss in processing code. Probably best not to use the Note setting when whanging three oscillators through a resonant low pass filter…

hey analogoutput the pcb’s showed up today . it will be a bit before I can get into buying parts.
but this should be the next thing I finish , looks like it will come in handy tweaking all my oscillators . a question though , does your version follow the DIY synth Module Tester PCB's (new version 2) build ? and can I use their preflashed atmega644p for this build . do you have info on your github page ? thanks , Scott .

Not too sure about the AmazingSynth version, I was working pretty much directly from the MI GitHub files although I did take the AS advice to use the Mouser DCWN06A-12 instead of the twice as expensive (ow ow ow) BOM power converter. What they have to say about the build on the web page seems fine though fairly generic. I’m not sure what they were getting at regarding the LCD header. I don’t see how long pins up vs down would affect the height. Or are they talking about putting the header long pins up on the underside of the main PCB? That might be. Anyway, I put it on the upper side, long pins down. Seems fine but then again I’m not using a case that demands tight tolerances. As for the ATMEGA644P again I can’t be sure, I bought a blank one and flashed it myself using the precompiled code on the MI GitHub. I mean, I’d be about 99% confident the AS preflashed chip would work fine, probably is exactly the same in fact, but it’s not what I did so…

was looking at the AmazingSynth BOM shopping cart at Mouser and there are a bunch of parts on back order , but my parts hording will come in handy. I have all but 2 things on hand the dcdc converter and one of the ic’s . in keeping with the trend I found a few cigar boxes in my collection that should work .

which IC are you missing?

sn74hc165n . I already found a couple on ebay pretty cheap .

I have multiples of both shift registers going spare, would have to send one across the pond though…

I’ve got them as well, maybe too late now

yeah I ordered them already , didn’t think to ask you guys . thanks for the thought

I have one I could have spared too.

Next time…

I ended up with @analogoutput’s other board. Just finished it.
Happy to help if you have any questions.

It’s been a little over a month since I built my Module Tester. I’ve used it a ton since then and I’ve kicked myself a ton for not building one sooner.

Trust me, if you do ANY sort of synth hardware experimentation or troubleshooting, you’d find one of these things incredibly useful. A+++, would build again.

Anyone have an extra board kicking around?

You should be able to get one from amazingsynth.com

Yep, I saw it.

I realized I have one of those LCD displays kicking around from an arduino kit I got ages ago.

Pusherman also sells a version:

a little build up date , added a more accurate voltage output 0-5v.
a switch to change cv jack to the volt output.
6 position voltage selector.
trim pots to adjust for accuracy .
