The three quad op amps are most likely for signal conditioning and buffering. There doesn’t appear to be much else on the board except passive components and trimmer pots.
In my opinion the price for the Daisy Seed is good, but the prices of the PATCH and POD are indeed excessive. The nice thing about the PATCH, POD and the other modules however is that the software and hardware is open source and accessible via github. So if you design your own pcb from the published schematics, and have that made for cheap via one of the much talked about PCB-maker-companies you can have the PATCH, POD etc for much less than Electro-smith is asking.
I have put replicating the PATCH on my TODO list. Apart from some buffering and an OLED display there is not much more to this module that the Daisy Seed isn’t already offering.
We are currently in talks with European distributors for Electrosmith products, and will post via our socials and mailing list once it is ready to be announced!
I’ve seen occasional posts on MuffWiggler from ElectroSmith, but nothing since July.
The Syntaxis VCO board is sold for about £25 or €27, which is comparable to the Electrosmith product. As they’re in Poland I imagine this is easier to get in the EU.
Edit: according to their checkout, shipping to the UK is £2.52. That’s a lot more manageable than Electrosmith’s eye-watering $20.
I agree. The kit is the kind of thing you might buy a teenager if you know they’re into modular synth but can’t yet afford to start in Eurorack, and you don’t know anything about it anyway. It’s within the doting maiden aunt price range.
Best Christmas present we ever bought was a Channel 4 NFL annual with all the US player stats. My wife’s brother’s fourteen-year-old was a 49ers fan though living in deepest Northumberland he only ever saw them on Channel 4 (back in the mid-eighties when Channel 4 was good.) His eyes lit up on opening the present and he spent most of the rest of Christmas and Boxing Day happily compiling his fantasy team.
