Not sure what this means, you’ve moved D3 and R8? To where? “Before Q2” doesn’t make sense to me. Anyway R5, R7, Q2, R8 only exist to light up D3, none of that should matter as far as making the gate.

Yes, sorry. I’m less than a beginner in electronics and my bad english doesn’t help.
I just placed D3 between R7 and Q2, on his collector, remove R8 and replace R7 by a 420 ohms resistor.

digging this one up as I just got the PCBs I made for this after losing them for about a year.

I copied AO’s layout and it works really nicely, however I put 2 LEDs in mine in parallel (cant really remember how I came to the conclusion that was the best idea) but even with one LED its still a little dimmer than I would like. Would lowering the value of R7 (15K) result in a brighter LED?

apologies for the eurorack nonsense, but heres my finished article using the schematic here. The LED brightness is a little irregular but it works great.
