Hey I was wondering if there are any gate/trigger sequencers that only output gate/trigger signals and not like a typical pitch sequencer you would usually find everywhere. Some rough examples are like LMNC’s big button drum trigger of the sequencer used on the speak and spell synth. Especially a stripboard layout will a lot more.
I imagine this would be something really easy to design (easy as far as this stuff goes ). Or basically just take any design and rip out the signal part. Find a design you like and I’m sure we can help with the adjustments.
I guess something like the baby 8 sequencer design can work, but again I just want it to only output gate signals for each step rather than say a parameter that is controlled by the potentiometer like most sequencers do. This design is the most used and recognized one, so is there are there modifications that can be done to it to make it the way I want it?https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Felectro-music.com%2Fforum%2Ftopic-37770.html%26postorder%3Dasc&psig=AOvVaw1jqFgwAqvAK646zKUKKAFh&ust=1602890475684000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CAIQjRxqFwoTCNCrxenet-wCFQAAAAAdAAAAABAE
You just want 8 steps and gate on/off on each step?
When you think about it, probably what you want is something that will do exactly what a Baby 8 will do if you only set the pots fully clockwise or fully counterclockwise.
So instead of the voltage going to the diode being the output of a voltage divider (the pot) between the 4017 output and ground, you want it to connect directly either to the 4017 or ground. So replace the pot with a SPDT switch: center to the diode, one end to the chip, other end to ground.
… actually there’s a bit more to it than that, I guess, because if you have two consecutive stages turned on, you won’t get two gates, you’ll get one long gate. So maybe you would want to AND the output with the clock.
Yeah thats right, again something very similar to the sequencer lmnc used in the speak and spell synth
Well, I guess, mainly just that every step is only a gate output, the cv value or parameter doesn’t matter as long as it’s just outputting a gate/trigger output for every step, basically the big button drum trig sequencer, but without the button
I guess what you need is an inverted Gate, so the gate is always on except at the point of the note/sequence change where it briefly dips to 0v. it may require trimming to get the right amount of time to be off.
If it were me, I would cut the pots out of the 8step design and add switches, which would be like the speak and spell. but you bring up the big button. haven’t built it, but big button has 6 different channels you can sequence at once, the 8-step doesn’t do that
