Used pattern fills in the copper underneath the solder mask. The effect shows up when looking at an angle. Definitely makes the panel feel more premium, for whatever reason.
Wauw, that looks nice indeed!
For those who stay up late pricing out projects, just a heads-up that the order button is before the payment button on JLCPCB, and it’s not joking, and I hope I got those test panels right!
So, JLCPCB started offering color silkscreen this month
The page doesn’t say it clearly but for now you have to use EasyEDA to make them - KiCad isn’t an option. But since it’d be for panels, import would probably work out ok.
Anyone plans to try it out?
Here’s a third-party example of the results
Eyyyy this looks awesome
Hmm, yet another skill to learn here. But the possibility of using various colours opens up lots of new design opportunities. I will certainly find some use for this.
One thing that jumps to mind is assembly aids.
What about copying the (image of the) copper traces to the silk screen and using 2 colours. This may make debugging more easily.
After actually trying out a mock order, it turns out JLC had the genius idea to make it impossible to order color prints without EasyEDA Pro. You know, not EasyEDA, but the Pro version for people who thought, “i love my professional software that has upsells everywhere, weird keyboard shortcuts, menus that trigger on mouseover, a login button, tacky visual design, worse features than the FOSS competitor, and uses electron, i love it so much i’m going to pay for it”
In conclusion, lol
I’ve been dreading it for quite some time now, but I finally got around to designing front panels for my modules. I’ve especially been toying around with adding pattern fills underneath the mask, to add some texture.
looks good! what are those things around the knobs on the rhythm generator? Led mounts?
Yes they are! 20char
Looks good @TimMJN, did you get the smd adapters sorted for the rhythm generator?
This could probably go in a dozen different threads but i just noticed this on JLCPCB:
Well-hidden little note, innit?
Trying a mock order, i indeed no longer see a surcharge for asking them to remove the number altogether.
PCBway has started to offer color prints too.
Sadly, the only example available show them printing ai slop on a board, heh.
No need to buy their special software! They take good old PNGs.
A lot, lot of caveats probably apply and will have to be learned the hard way as people try it out.
impressed with the results I got from this blank euro panel (from JLC)
Not immediately obvious but all the detail is in plated copper, I didnt use silkscreen at all.
aw thats sick!
The halftone is really stylin’
I was really surprised how well halftone worked to show the different colors of the original pic.
Gonna keep upping the resolution until jlc refuse to accept the job.
I once ordered a pcb thats gerber files were 47,6 MB, but when zipped the packed went to 11,8 MB, so I could order it. I wonder what is the real limit.
Holy hell I love that panel!
