Isnt the point of the thread about things that arnt obvious though?
You got me there. Obviously.
Which side is the hot tap convention in the US?
UK hot should be left hand.
Which has just reminded me… Our bikes have read brake on the left, front brake on the right. My brother in law ( a seasoned road cyclist ) rented a bike on the continent, on entering a downhill tunnel he found his speed to be too great and in a normal way grabbed a fist full of left hand… Promptly locking the front wheel and sending him crashing into the tunnel wall.
In the US there’s a single tap for hot and cold. There’s usually either a knob for each hot and cold with cold to the left of the tap and hot to the right, or a single knob that controls flow and mix starting with off at the counter- (or anti-) clockwise extreme and moving through cold, warm and hot as it goes to the clockwise extreme.
In the US there’s a single tap for hot and cold.
Wikipedia tells me the mixer tap was invented in 1880, so if we give the UK a few more years they may catch up with everyone else.
(On the other hand, the US has these strange shower mixers where a single rotational motion controls both water flow and temperature. That’s almost as weird as separate taps…)
Yes, but you get used to it. The two-knob shower mixers are still out there but not as popular for some reason. The flow is at full before it gets out of the “very cold” range usually.
We have Individual and mixer taps, that’s not unusual.
My understanding is that the HOT is always the left is so that people with impaired vision know what to expect…

Or just for everyone so they don’t have to think about it.
