Plenty of people have built it and it functions. It looks like you have some input though, so feel free to make your own layout and share with the group if you feel so inclined!
The LED is shown as connecting to rows K and L.
I have built multiple Stripboard layouts of Samās and other than a couple tiny mistakes (that he has since updated the stripboard layouts for) everything has worked fineā¦
Sam often writes comments and informations within the project pages, and generally suggests that you read everything as well as taking a look at the datasheets of the ICās for yourselfā¦
Some of these chips will still function when different pins are connected to different places, keep in mind that they are stripboard layouts and nowhere does he state that they are 100%.
His projects that end up 100% percent tend to be turned into PCB and Panel Kits that are offered on the Web Store.
How is creating āprojectsā trolling by any means?
Why would some of us support his Patreon? Because Sam does Live streams, VLOGās, Giveaways, and tons of other cool shit for his Patreon Supporters.
If the layout simply isnāt working for you⦠move on? Find another layout⦠I am sure there are MANY stripboard layouts for VCOās on the web⦠not to mention plenty of Gerber files so you can make your own PCBās and go the easy route!
There are so many options that it kinda makes you sound silly for coming on here and complaining and stating āmisinformationā is being givenā¦
I was thinking the same, @d42kn355. Also, given my own experiences with strip board layouts from all over the web and the fact that others have apparently figured it out and made it work, Iād be inclined to believe that the mistake may not be in the layout, but rather of the layout reader, which can be hard for an ego in the internet age to accept. In this case, it could be debated who is the real troll then, coming to a forum of fans who support the target of your attacks financially and throwing shade. So Iād say @foalamo donāt give up or get discouraged if you didnāt read it right, or if you burnt a transistor or whatever, but be careful about calling an earnest, busy hard worker like Sam a troll in his own house.
Everyone, i dont want this thread to devolve into poking at people. Sometimes it can be difficult to express critique without coming across as an asshole. Itās just a simple VCO. If @foalamo was as they said, not meaning any disrespect, we should give the benefit of the doubt here. If they were just complaining about a design and did not want to contribute, i think they are missing the point of this community. It is ok not to like these designs, they arnt perfect. No one is saying they are perfect.
We are all in this together.
well said
Not to disrupt further; when faced with this kind of lively disageement Iām reminded of the words of a great English philosopher who began a confrontation with the words āwhereās your tool?ā
My best to all
yeah, re-read the first line of my original comment.
Kinda should have expected this kind of backlash posting on this forum, but was really just stating an opinion. All part of a healthy debate, but obviously alternative opinion must not be what you guys like to hear.
Once again NO DISRESPECT INTENDED.
I just figured if you were going to go to the lengths of posting a layout for a project, which for most would be one of the first stripboard layouts they tried then you would probably document it a bit better, and refine it to function to itās fullest capabilities.
And if you were to have projects and layouts for paying customers only then this isnāt really a good advert for that, IMO.
The LED placement is confusing because itās not been shrunk down to the right size to show the pins in the correct place, which is unlike any other layouts Iāve seen before. Only when looking at it thoroughly you see that the pins are shown inside the led as well as on the side, yes, my mistake but could have just been avoided with a bit more time spent making the information.
Also, @d42kn355 I stated I did move on, and made my own layout so thanks for stating the blatantly obvious, and also when you say Sam writes comments on the project pages, there isnāt any real extra info on the page so yeah, thanks for your input.
I mean, misinformation is a bit of a strong word, but just feel it could sour many peoples first experience of synth DIY, and discourage more than encourage, not denying many people have made this circuit work, and thanks for the warm welcome.
Itās not alternative opinions that are the problem. Itās alternative opinions that are belligerently stated along with ad hominem attacks.
This is a friendly forum. Be friendly. So far, youāre not.
@analogoutput sorry, what part is belligerently stated?
and what part is ad hominem?
Really donāt get all the hate, but fair enough, as Iāve said itās just an opinion.
I guess i was a bit brutal in stating that, but yeah thanks again.
You do you fam.
You may not be aware of how you come across, but it does come across as being an asshole. If thats not intended, try to understand why others interpret it that way and adjust. Or dont, it really up to how you want to be perceived.
I want to think you arnt so oblivious that you think using words like āthanks for stating the blatantly obviousā and āobviously alternative opinion must not be what you guys like to hearā dont come across as arrogant and crass. You come across as someone looking to start a fight, like those folks who start online arguments with sarcastic tones.
I have seen people like you many times before, this isnt my first rodeo. You act like you dont know what you are doing, but that is just flat out not true.
If you feel a layout is not good, then in the spirit of cooperation, please share the improved version.
You also seem to misunderstand what Samās patreon is for, since you called us his ācustomersā. All strip board layouts you see are up to you to get working. If you are nice, people will help you with any issues you have, but if you continue to have this argumentative attitude, i dont suspect you will have much success.
If you are just trying to troll us, we will just ignore you. Simple as that.
I was sarcastic to those who have no helpful input or debate and in a way are attacking me for stating MY OPINION.
Iām pretty sure Iāve accepted that how people have perceived my comments have been blown a bit out of proportion and misinterpreted and have acknowledged that in my follow up comments.
Why now would I share anything to aid this community when theyāve been nothing but standoff-ish to everything Iāve said?
Again, Iāll get over it, and you, like everyone else, are entitled to your opinion, I hope everyone doesnāt lose sleep over having their opinions challenged otherwise I would suggest staying off of forums, or the internet in general.
No need for name calling though, thatās just a just pretty lame way to move.
have a goodunā
No hard feelings friend. Just trying to help. Some general advise for your life in the future though, the way you handle yourself in social situations like these matter. Its not just āinternet talkā, people are on the other end of these conversations. If you want to take this to the PM level, that way it is more private, i would gladly have a polite conversation. It sounds like you have something you wish to get off of your chest. I can explain in better detail where the hangups are happening if you are still having trouble understanding why people are upset.
Itās all good mate, I think Iāll be alright.
Have fun in the other post troubleshooting peoples builds.
Was just thinking that better documentation might save you all the time and effort.
LOL dam I missed this shit . first off Welcome foalamo . yeah it is an over simplified piece of shit design that kinda works and [IMO] Sam has stated that all his early stuff is as such, thats why he is working every day on making his stuff better . I believe [ IMO] that Samās intention never was to show the internet how it is done . he is just taking us on his personal journey to better his equipment. we are all on this journey , together hopefully. so if we tone down the āwaste of timeā ātrollā accusations and help each other [and there are a few people here who go above and beyond ] hopefully we can all make some music/noise in the end . if you have better ideas or come across something out there, please share . peace and health to you ā¦
Apologies for digging this old chestnut up again, but I have a few questions about the tone POT capacitor.
In the stripboard schematic, itās labelled as a 47nF capacitor, but in the BOM itās a 4.7nF capacitor, which is correct?
Secondly, does it matter what kind of capacitor it is? Can it be electrolytic, or does it need to be non-polarised?
Finally, does it connect solely to the tone POT wiper, or is it also connected to the outside pin (1 or 3?)? Does it matter
Thanks,
Boab
I think itās 47nf (maybe @Caustic make an error on is list boom up of this page).
For filter the cap use a ceramic one
And yes the cap is connected to the wipper and the pin 1
47 nF electrolytics do exist, but Mouser wants more than $15 a piece in small quantities.
Mostly youād use electrolytics only above 100 nF, more likely above 1 µF. For this use film or ceramic.
Thanks both! Looks like I need to place yet another component order, I think I should also place an order to see the opticianā¦
Woops! Yes as the strip board shows itās a 47nf. Will update links. Note that the one I posted is measured in uf, but is equivalent.
