Fume Extractor Power Supply Help

Yeah, that looks correctly wired to me so I’m not sure what is going on. Sorry.

Ok, next action is to figure out if there’s something weird going on with the switch.

  1. Unplug the supply and desolder one of the wires from the switch (doesn’t matter which one).
  2. Make sure the loose end doesn’t touch anything, and plug in the supply. The fans should stay still.
  3. Hold the wire against the other wire connected to the switch (12 V isn’t dangerous, but if you’d like to be extra cautious hold the isolation, or use pliers). The fans should start.
  4. Hold the wire against the three unused switch tabs, in order, and take note of where the fans start, and where they don’t.
  5. Flip the switch to the other position, and repeat step 4.

If you make it through step 5 without any weirdness, you should now be able to figure out which tab you should connect the wire to.

Thanks Fredrik. I followed your steps. No matter which terminals I put it on the fans only ever stayed on and never turned off. I removed the switch and tried a new one. Turns out the switch was bad. Now everything works fine! Thanks!
