got 2 of these 3-axis 10k joysticks. Is there anything to do expect a CV source, and make the synth feel like a spaceship even more?

Could be interesting to build an ms-20 filter and have X for cutoff and Y for resonance. IIRC the Korg Wavestation uses a joystick to mix 4(?) signal sources together. Are they sprung?

Yes they are, but I can take out the springs from the x and y axes.

Those are the types of applications I was thinking of, yes! I think for flexibility, I will make them into -5 - 5v outputs, including inverted. Then I can patch them into eg a filter with vc resonance for such an effect. Think I’ll take the springs out of one of them, leave the other sprung.

Maybe you can use this dual CV joystick and mod it for 3 axes
I’ve made it and it’s verified
With this type of module you can drive a cut off CV of a filter, but also everything with CV input 😉 )
it can send -5V to +5V

> Joystick schematic and CV Wheel schematic come from [Niklas Rönnberg](http://familjenronnberg.se/~niklas/diy/eurorack/joystick/) I change 100K to 150K on range pots to have +&- 9V out max (before i have 11,80V) I add a trimpot on the wheel schem for best octave adjust. Not a complex board but a lot of spaghetti grinning EDIT of the Layout

btw i put out a spring of one to use it like a wheel, more for pitch bend

Hey, I think I’ll build this one. I have 2 old joysticks but they are 150Kb which means logarithmic. Will this be ans issue?

I really don’t know, maybe try it, Log or Lin i’m not sure that’s make a big difference, the schem is done for a approx 10K joystick (pot) but …

“B” usually refers to a linear response. Are you sure they are logarithmic? Log curve on a joystick doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense. Maybe ‘W’ curve, but that’s rare.

I thought that as well but i have pots of different values that i ordered from asia and also pots that i took out of lower price range stuff that have a B on it but are clearly audio taper.
Also, very old potentiometers have it the other way round

I think there might be some manufacturers that still use the old designations of have them switched around for some reason.

I usually just check them with a multimeter before i use them just to be sure

EDIT: it is pretty weird for a joystick though.

I am always confused with the A and B on pots, checked them with an Ohmmeter and they are clearly Log. I can’t remember where I got them and what I wanted to use them for. Some universal controller I guess that never went beyond planning phase. I also used one of them in my guitar to pan between 2 pickups, but that didn’t work out good enough either.

yes between the old notations and the different sources it is a little complicated, if I say no stupidity, B is Lin for me, but maybe also Log in Japan

This may sound radical but you could open the pots on the joystick device and replace the disk plates with ones from a linier pot?

On joysticks, how about these 5v force resistive? Joysticks salvaged from an old specialised digitiser (for GIS I believe)
I’m tempted to hook them up to 5v and the outputs straight to Jacks to see if they will work as expression controllers. But I also suspect gain and maybe offset so cantered is 0v might be better?

I removed the original cast resin thumb rests to reveal the knurled brass, thinking of mounting wooden balls to them. (So many ball jokes I my head 🤣)

Other ideas? I have two ….

They are MSI 462. I’ve found a basic data sheet. Be warned prices on the secondary market for them are eye watering expensive last time I checked. If anyone knows or finds a reasonably priced source for these (subminiature force operated joysticks) I would be interested.

That won’t help. These have a much smaller wiper angle than regular pots. Less than 90 degrees I’d say.
