Also the mod section looks like a cute cat face with eyelashes and I can’t unsee it and it’s going to change 😂

No worries, the BD++ has been on my list since forever, so after all this talk I’m ~94% done with a mini module version of it (let’s just say fitting the entire thing in my standard 70×30 form factor is a bit of a challenge 😃)

EDIT: 100% done, PCB order placed. Will post photo when I have a test build, if I remember.

70 x 30 would be very tough. Would have to ditch the big jacks and all the mods id imagine. I’m messing right now with a 150mm layout and it might be getting out of hand, so many options when probably half the time you just need any old kick sound 😂 going to play with the idea some more. Still having fun

I managed (with a bit of trickery), but forgot two decoupling caps in the first round, and had to redo some things to squeeze them in (yes, I use this absurd form factor as a challenge, not because it’s practical 😀)

</div>

You know it’s tight when adding two tiny caps requires a significant redesign. You still use all thru-hole?

</div>

Yep. Some people solve sudokus and other brainteasers, others entertain themselves by squeezing in 50-60 thru-hole components on ~20 square centimetres 😃

(Main issue with the caps was that they intruded on the space that was reserved for the “BASS++” label.)

The photo is from the MW thread where the stripboard layout was first posted. I guess it could be inkjet on transparent film, but looking at the video it looks more like toner transfer.

I’ve made one attempt at toner transfer and it came out about one thousandth as good looking as that.

Built @ChristianBloch’s strip board version, minus volume. Works like a charm first time around. Going to add in the wave shape.

Straight out of the gate I know the sensitivity knob has to stay in full size on any faceplate I end up making. It significantly and pleasantly changes the character of the sound, more so than the impact tone IMO.

I think the decay pot is backwards. To the left should be very short to the right very long, right?

Thanks @ChristianBloch and @d42kn355, I can dig it. Mini bd++

Looking forward to the pcb even more, the sound is very nice

</div>

Actually, now that I think about it, shouldn’t the unused leg of the decay pot also be hooked back to the wiper? It’s acting as a variable resistor in the schem

</div>

It doesn’t really matter when you build stripboards, but it’s common practice for PCB mounted potentiometers (you want to solder it anyway for physical stability, so might as well connect it, and it also limits the max resistance should the wiper glitch out, but otoh if that happens odds are your module is unusable anyway 🤷‍♀️ ).

(I wish people would stop using that stupid symbol; it’s not like it takes you any longer to use a 3-terminal symbol for a 3-terminal device, and you save a bit of time for everyone who tries to build your circuit…)

What do you reckon we do about the pots? Can you even get A10ks and 500k alpha 9mm pots? Panel mount and wire? See if I can find/make a footprint for the other type that will work with the alpha pot spacing?

(I’m fine with panel mount, allowing one to use a variety of options.)

They are always out of stock. And most other places only carry the b10s and b100
