Random Byte Generator

Why do we want to play safely?

I need an emote of Esopus with a ‘leaned on back of arm in a kind of Gene Wilder-Wonka’ kind of meme.

A little away from the OP topic, but on the white noise generator schema, if you were to replace R2 with a potentiometer, would that allow you to control the amount of “randomness”?

What do you mean by randomness ? The frequency ?
But I don’t think it would change anything (beside the amplitude), as the noise is produced by the semiconductor (shot noise).

It would likely just make it not avalanche. Not sure though, feel free to experiment. Im not an expert!

I may build this once I can stock a decent supply of components. Seems neat, if only as an RNG.

Ok so I just tested it, and it definitely seems to work! But it seems important to have the HCT version of the 7404, otherwise it will not work… And I tested this exact circuit on breadboard, and it was not great (maybe I did something wrong)… But eh! At least it’s working on my PCB!

Hm, maybe next time you should build it on PCB first, as a test to see if it’ll work on breadboard…

Ahah totally! I mean, sometimes it’s actually easier to directly go on PCB and do some tweaks and bodges! And with the prices of OSHpark, you can have your small test PCB for cheap within a week!
