That’s only the cable.
The “problem” with IDC connectors is how the connector interfaces with the cable.
That’s two tiny spots, one on each side of the wire.
Maybe passing enough amps thru there they will weld and be able to pass 1 Amp afterward 🙂

Würth also says 1 A for its connectors:
(again, per conductor by inference. The Tayda ones don’t show a current rating on their “datasheet”.)

I don’t know if they are optimistic or I’m pessimistic…

They say that cable can pass 1A per wire, or 10A total, with a voltage rating of 300V, that’s 3000W.
Would you use this kind of cable and connectors for that wattage in your house ?

Google brought up this deep dive into IDC power ratings:

> **[26 AWG 26 and 28 AWG 28 Flat Ribbon Cable and IDC Socket Current Ratings...](http://www.mosaic-industries.com/embedded-systems/electronic-instrument-design-new-product-development/cables/ribbon-cable-current-rating)**

(TL;DR limits depend on a lot of things, but 1 A on a few wires should be safe)

</div>

Safe, maybe… depends on the definition of safe used.

A 30ºC temperature rise…
That’s 20º(ambient, I don’t live in the desert…)+30º(rise) = 50ºC on the cable.
Seems quite hot for me.
If a power cord in my surroundings is appreciably hotter than ambient temp (that’s maybe 5ºC more) I unplug it immediately…

But everyone is free to do like he feels…
For me IDC cables are fine for one module, not more… my own personal safety rating…

Isn’t that for max current on all wires? Using the 3M numbers for 28 AWG from that article, 1 A on 1-4 wires would be +5 ºC, not 30.

(but agree that IDC isn’t for power distribution)

Control module finished. I should be ready to send all three boards off to the manufacturer soon. Just going to do some preflight checks to look for issues before sending it off.

This board can support two different footprints of pcb-mounted rotary potentiometer, and one variety of slide potentiometer.

The reason i went with multiple footprints here is so that one only need one type of control board, and they can create many combinations of knob/fader configurations to match what their setup demands. Additionally, while the alpha pots are nice, they can be trouble to find in stock for many, and are more pricy. I like options.

The header is mounted on the reverse side, so that this can be mounted, and all the wires and gubbins will be inward facing. One can of course feel free to have a front plate for these, or use directly as is.

And as usual with these things, I notice too late that I did not account for knob clearance with the Control Module.

Oh well, should still be able to get a function test with this batch. I knew to leave space, oh well. Live and learn, i bet once i get these ill find other problems.

Errors are part of the process. 🙂

I might just make due with some smaller knobs!
