That’s my no-computer, over-engineered version of this project: [https://r0d0t.tumblr.com/post/45022928402](https://r0d0t.tumblr.com/post/45022928402) !
If it works (I don’t have much hope), I can send you a board. If not, it will make a great decoration on my wall ;p

The use of servos to drive a simple percussion engine is really inspiring. I want to include kinetic stuff like that in my own work. Why restrict my synth’s output to only stuff that can be conceived electronically and born through a speaker?

Servos and motors as controls can give you a lot of design scope and playability. Durability is not an option these days as servos seem to be made of tinkly bits of plastic held together in the shape of cogs… until you abuse them.

Make your own servos. I mean we’re just talking about machines that sit around waiting to be controlled. Find cogs that won’t die in your scenario. Find servos that will drive those cogs. Construct the engine. Be happy when the servo works as expected. Be prepared to explain why the correct operation of the servo caused harm to somebody.

if you pay the big $ you can get servos with metal gears higher torque etc.

Already shared in my build thread…but…got my second package from LMNK (which is actually the first order I placed but I went cheap on shipping) and was quite happy to see this time the package arrived intact:

That megadrone board is even bigger than I was expecting…and I was expecting it to be bigger than i expected 😲

Looks to be about 200 mm tall and 400 mm wide, assuming the Splashback panel is bog standard Kosmo 200 by 100. There may be room for price reduction if the whole panel space is not really needed. In particular those four (or is it five?) columns of controls seem to be crying out for multiplexing. You may still need the oscillator chips and maybe a little bit more for the mux, but you’d save a lot on panel space and switch gear.

Even better, you can use the same principle to scale up to a very large matrix of drones without spending a penny more on mux, panels or switchgear.

it could be smaller, but its designed to be BIG

</div>

Yeah, I wasn’t criticizing the size. It could easily be smaller. But I like that it’s big.

For now it will help fill space in my case…and as I get more modules built and need space I’ll probably move it into it’s own box because it’s big enough to justify it and with the simple 12v input option it would be easy to power by itself.

</div>

It’s the same size as my sequencer, which takes up more than 1/3 of the Kosmo space in the new case I built. Being 5V powered it could pretty easily go into a separate box, but then I’d have to find a place for the box. Empty horizontal space being at the premium it is around here, it probably makes more sense for it to live in the case.
