! That’s looking really cool!
So as you all probably know, this is how it turned out.
I struggled with this midi controller donor keybed, besides being yellow keyed and filthy when I got it the keyboard itself after cleaning and whitening is actually ok. The problem was the aftertouch and mod/bend wheels. The AT didn’t work at all, so fortunately I had another controller that was used in a project that didn’t require AT, so I swapped them over. No problem.
Then I tested the pitch bend and mod wheel. The modwheel outputted around 30 to 90 in CC values rather than 0-127. The pitch bend was worse, -2000 to around +4000 instead of the usual -8000 to +8000 approx. I plugged a joystick into the sockets for the controllers and they moved through the correct ranges. So that suggests pots. I swapped both pots and still the same. Very weird, I had another pair of slightly different controls from another keyboard, I plugged them in and again the proper ranges were achieved. Very bizarre, it was like the original controls couldn’t travel far enough because if you removed the plastic controls and just turned the pots they were fine.i tried cutting away a little of the end stops for the modwheel so it could travel further, it made no difference. After nearly a day messing with these I bolted in the pair from the other synth and they work perfectly. If you look at my photo of the two synths on top of each other you can see the mod wheels are different.
