dam dude this sh\*t pisses me off when I run into these while trouble shooting . I am lucky though I have a dear friend who is a musician / tech he’s been at it for decades so I can have him check my screw ups and I have found that when he does it is usually a simple dam thing I should have been able to see . get the schematic work from the power source [ten pin euro plug] with a multi meter and visual and work your way out check one component at a time [check values to] , sorry thats all I can help .

one thing I noticed that is different from my build and Sam’s , is on yours you screwed the voltage regulator down maybe that has something to do with it ?

maybe, i usually do it with all my panels cause i assumed thats what the hole was for, ill switch it out for a nylon bolt and nut, i sat with a multimeter last night and a friend also got to to do some stuff to meassure the resistance of the board or whatever to make sure it wasnt a short. Im at a sorta limbo phase now so ive got no idea what else to do. Out of the 11 panels ive got they have all worked first try haha, first the gameboys and now this

Clearly something to do with the chips is pulling alot of current for whatever reason, i take them out and the circuit is fine, put them back in and it starts to burn up…anoyingly i dont have any other pt2399’s to test and im not getting another tayda shipment for a while as i like to ket the basket build up a bit

hey up! I’m pretty sure it should not be a problem the tab attaches to ground which is around the switch.

interesting one.

if its the pt2399’s maybe check pin 3 of the 7805 for around 5 volts.

was it at all plugged in wrong before this issue?? I have had PT2399’s go bad after a mistake and then they cause a similar issue

</div>

I double triple checked before plugging it in, also tried a first power on without the pt2399’s in. The 7805 give out around 5.05 volts so that should be fine, ive gotten a few opinions from others around me and it all seems to be fine, maybe i got a dud pt2399 but i just find it weird that it could be all 3 as the resistor gets hotter the more i put in until it burns out completely, i cant order anymore atm to test so i might just have to shelf it for a while and focus on the gameboys as im having issues there too

yeah thats what I figured but hey , there defiantly is a short somewhere a shorted ic chip is a more likely cause .

Is there an easy way to check with a multimeter or something to see if the chips are bad? I can solder ok but when it comes to trouble shooting im useless lol

is there a way to test with just 1 pt2399 chip in? That way i can go through and see how many are dead

annoyingly not, they go in to each other 1 after the other. if you look through the schematic you can possibly put in a probe at points where the 3 circuits intersect. check on R27 with an audio probe to test output of circuit 1,R28 for circuit 2 ( a wire connected to an old crappy amp, make sure the ground of the module is also connected to the sleeve of the probe I hope that makes sense).

I wish i could say ive got a crappy amp but sadly not, too scared to risk the nice one too. Ive given it to my teacher at school as she knows more about electronics than i do so hopefully she can see whats up. im just gonna bite the bullet and say its a dead pt2399…well…i guess that thats out of the way for the moment i can finish the midimuso and see whats wrong with my stripboard for the gameboys, thanks again for your help sam!

i found i got a dud pt2399 chip so i replaced all 3 bpt it still doet work, when i flick the switch to activate it all it does is make everything loud and all 3 leds stay on, after some time they eventually go off

Try to switch the other switch that removes the highs, they often make for a big noise! Also move the three mix knobs to the left and carefully mix in the echos! It can get very crazy fast if you are not careful 🙂

the hi low switch doesnt seem to do anything, sound is being passed through whether the panel is on or of or high or low but no delay to be heard
